I was once teaching ESL in Las Vegas; this was after leaving one grad program and before flaking out on another. The class was held in the North Paw of the Sphinx right outside the Luxor. Seriously. Anyway, one of my students was writing an essay about his experiences in the US, and he was very disappointed that he was too old to attend high school. Even so, he remained optimistic and said, "Still, I have happy."

That's not shameful... it's sensibly weighing your options.
e.g. "should I get a bagel with my coffee? Nah, I'll just have a slice of the body of Christ at communion later."
I see nothing wrong with this. I find it admirable.
fyi, there's no rule about going for seconds. next time.
